Introduction to Mass Communication
This course is an examination of the effect and impact of mass media on contemporary life and society.
The course covers both the historical evolution of media as well as contemporary developments and
issues. Areas of coverage include, newspapers and journalism, magazine and book publishing, radio and
television broadcasting, motion pictures, music recording, Internet and social media, cable and satellite
communication, advertising and public relations; media law and ethics. Course work will include daily lectures, assignments, presentations, quizzes, and regular participation in online discussion forums (LMS, Zoom or any other hybrid method).

The course has been designed to make the students familiar with a broad variety of specific ethical and legal that journalists are supposed to follow while performing their professional responsibilities. As journalists, the students will not only learn about their legal rights and obligations but they will also be able to know about the basic requirements for publishing information without violating fundamental canons of journalism.
The student will learn about journalists’ ethical codes, defamation laws, privacy related matters, how to gather information to avoid legal and/or ethical trouble and how to deal with subpoenas. The students will also learn about different ordinances related to media ethics and laws, journalistic unions and organizations functioning for the welfare of journalists in Pakistan.
Introduction to Broadcast Media
Introduction to Broadcast Media Course may include mass media writing, photography, television production, radio production, and news writing for television, or radio news production.
